Movie : Revenge of the Sith

Well, I saw that movie! It was pretty good. When we last saw our heroes, in episode II, they were mostly drooling and dozing off, or looking pixelated. This time around things have improved amazingly! Palpatine and Obi-Wan were the best by far, as far as characters and acting go, and computer Yoda has been improved greatly, no longer looking ridiculous in action scenes and actually managing to look like an effective character in slow scenes! The "love" scenes between Padme and Ani are still unbelievably terrible, both in writing and acting (Lucas was playing the "how many cliched one-liner love lines can I stick in this scene" game.) Thankfully, the love is kept to a minimum and Natalie Portman dies. I giggled everytime anyone said "Dooku," but that's just me.

I was totally grabbed at the beginning, then I wasn't too sure for awhile, but when everybody started getting killed, I was really into it. Man! What action and effects!

The ending was genius! Perfect set up! I wanted to go home and watch episode four right then! (but I only have it on tape, perhaps a DVD purchase is in order? Lucas wins!)

Recommend? Yeah, I do. It wasn't the best. Or the second best. But if you skip some of the middle, and every scene with only Padme and Ani, then it might have a shot at a tie for third best with "...Jedi" But man! Was it ever better than Eps I and II! By a lot!

Okay, maybe it wasn't the best of all the Star Wars movies...but only because it totally boosts the value of the others. I have to watch them all again to make sure which I really claim as best. But Episode III did it's job well: to bring some action and pull all the other movies together.

Did you watch the Clone Wars cartoon episodes first?!? Those were pretty cool!

i wonder whose star wars tapes those are? oh yeah, they're MINE! luckily, episodes IV and V were on WB sunday afternoon a couple of weeks ago, so they were still fresh in my mind. it's been a few years since i've seen VI, though.

so, is everyone going to start referring to all of them as I through VI now? i don't mind.

hey, you know, sam had never watched a star wars movie before, and i dragged her to see this one. maybe because of her unspoiledness, she had an interesting insight, which for me made episodes I and II much better, in retrospect:

maybe anakin was just a stupid, boring kid who didn't deserve to be a jedi; so, it makes sense that he's played as a dull, sort of childish character. also, it would then make sense that he has a boring girlfriend (padme), that he's picked out by a wacko jedi (qui-gon) with silly 'midichlorian' theories, and that he has idiot hangers-on (jar jar). the only reason someone cool like obi-wan would get involved was because he was a qui-gon admirer.

ok.

Ha ha. He was pretty boring and stupid wasn't he? Maybe it wasn't bad acting, but fantastic acting for being lame and stupid! Everything falls into place! And Qui-gon was pretty crazy! But, Obi was so smooth. Though, maybe a little bit of a cheeseball, that's for sure. He said some lame lines with great relish! Oh Obi-Wan, you're our only hope...

(p.s. Maggie always held that she didn't have any idea where those tapes came from... You can certainly take them home when you visit.)

Boo! Hiss!

You guys lost your kid-spark or something. Anakin was awesome. In every movie. All six. You can pick em apart forever (even INDIANA JONES has crap parts...but who cares!?), but they are good, fun movies. All of em. To me. I think everyone has just got on some kinda bandwagon to pick apart the acting. It's STAR WARS for hoo-haws sake!

You guys go back to the land of work and relationships, and I'll stay here in the land of make-believe where movies are cool and midichlorians, while improbable, could exist.

*humph*

Whee-oom. The reason people pick at the acting is two-fold.

The acting wasn't that bad in the originals (and there were cheezy lines in the old ones, but by golly Mark Hamil gave them his all, and they came out okay! Like Ewan MacGregor in the new ones.)

And two, why was Natalie Portman so bad? She's a good acress, as far as the Professional or Garden State are concerned. I mean, the anakin guy was bad, but no one expected much out of him. But Oh Natalie! Why?!

But Indiana Jones is perfect in every way, amen forever. The next Indiana Jones movie is sure to be super fly badass...

Ummmboop. I still thought the movie was loads of fun. I'd watch it again. But I do wish those pesky midichlorians would go away. Next Lucas will re-edit a scene into Return of the Jedi where Palaptine says to Darth Vader, "Oh Vader, Luke must have a real good bunch of midichlorians in his blood. His sweet, sweet blood, with so many midichlorians... It's strange that Obi-Wan never mentioned them to Luke. And Yoda, too, when he was explaining the force. But nonetheless! He must be jumping with midichlorians. I bet Jabba is full of them too. Let's eat that Hut and suck out his midichlorians..." Whoa! I just invented force vampires! Hey! does that mean you could get a force-blood infusion and become a super jedi? I'm going to make a new movie with jedi, and when one is killed, the other jedi drink the blood to get super force pumped. "Jedi: the Highlandering" "Yoda, take my blood into your sweet, green mouth and use my midichlorians to defeat evil...bleargh...*"

Shmoopy!

Yikes! What I am about to link is rough. If you are weak of heart, do not click here, but flee to warm waters and fun-noodles. However, if you can laugh at a good ribbing and not mind your own opinion about that which is being ribbed upon (hmm..."ribbed upon" that's interesting) then click and read. I laughed.

just so you know, i went to see the Sith movie again last night, by myself, the first time i've gone to see a movie alone in many years. i liked it that much! but still, there are these dopy bits that the characters say, that just make me cringe. there's nothing like it in the originals. and sure, anakin isn't bad. he's pretty bad in the phantom menace, though, and i can barely remember the clones movie, but the Sith movie was great. anakin was great. natalie portman sucked, though.

This got the most comments in all of Totally Vague reviews! That honors me, for sparking, um, conversation. I totally want that crazy machine General Grievous drives, with the legs and the giant wheel. That was just about the coolest vehicle ever.
